2. What are the ingredients of pasta?

Pasta is a natural product made from 100% durum wheat semolina and water.

There are variations according to its category, such as:

Plain: Durum wheat semolina and water
Tricolore: Durum wheat semolina, dehydrated spinach, dehydrated tomato and water
Egg noodles: Durum wheat semolina, dehydrated whole egg powder, dehydrated whole milk powder and water
Whole wheat: Whole durum wheat semolina and water
Flavoured: Durum wheat semolina, various dehydrated vegetables such as beetroot, carrot, spinach, tomato, etc. and water.

To be more specific we can say that plain pasta is produced from durum wheat semolina and water, while special pasta, apart from the semolina and the water, also contains other natural ingredients, such as egg, milk, spinach, tomato, carrot, etc. The special pasta category also includes «whole wheat» pasta, pasta with soya, with soya and added gluten, etc.

There is also pasta for use in special diets, it is mainly produced from corn meal or rice flour and is particularly popular abroad.
Two other categories of pasta are stuffed pasta (tortellini, ravioli, etc) and pasta made from dough sheets (lasagne).
